Social Awareness Service Organisation (SASO) is a non-profit organisation, under the society registration No. 8/M/SR/of 1992 and which was established on 1st January 1991, by a group of drug users who have witnessed and lived the stigma due to HIV and the moralistic approach towards drug use problem.
With a goal to serve People who use Drugs (PWUD) in Manipur and a common mission to build sustainable models for prevention of HIV among People who inject Drugs (PWID) with rights based approach. Started mass awareness campaign in 1991 through the contributions from the members and later with funds arranged through musical events.
Working for the prevention of the HIV among the IDUs, it has gradually expanded the activities for the care and support of the PLHIV and issues affecting the lives of women and children. It is one of the pioneer community based organization in Manipur to implement HIV/AIDS related programs. Over the years, it has been successfully in establishing meaningful linkages, and is collaborating with different funding agencies both at the national and international level.
SASO works in the domains, which it believed, provides dignified holistic management to the drugs users and HIV/AIDS.
